The Invisible Bee: Album Release Concert + Jen Myzel

 —  —

The Lost Church, 65 Capp St, San Francisco

Please join us to celebrate the release of our second album at this intimate and iconic SF venue!

THE INVISIBLE BEE

The Invisible Bee is creating a soundtrack for the Anthropocene. We are living in unprecedented times, faced with many forms of violence against humans, animals, and our ecosystems. The Invisible Bee channels poetry, harmony and groove to explore love and loss, grief and hope, dharma and action. Weaving together rock, folk, meditation and penetrating vocals to conceive a sound that speaks to the broken and the divine within us and within our world, the Bee’s music opens a portal to feel, face and respond to all of it. Lead singer/songwriter Charity Kahn is a musician, mother, children’s music-and-movement teacher, and meditation teacher living in San Francisco. Daryn Roven is a recording engineer/producer, father, and guitar player. They are joined by Paul Lamb on bass and David Rokeach on drums, each of whom brings decades of incredibly funky musicIanship.

When not making music for grown-ups, The Invisible Bee shows up as the beloved SF-based rock band Charity and the JAMband, performing music-and-dance concerts and making award-winning rock albums for children and families with themes of peace, kindness, Earth care, mindfulness, joy, and celebration of all life.

JEN MYZEL

Jen Myzel's music ranges from ritualistic chants like "Gentle Heart" to her lyrical, soulful folk songs, weaving themes of ancestry, activism, Earth connection and beauty. Jen Myzel's music is introspective yet activating. It seeks to whisper universal truth and remembrance into the heart and soul of all who listen.

Jen recently published a children’s sing-a-long book, Yellow Lotus Flower, which has been praised by elder and author Joanna Macy as “a story for our times.” She is currently recording her third studio album, Birds of the Night, due to be released in December of 2019. Family Practice Class

 —  —

East Bay Meditation Center, 285 17th St, Oakland

I'll be sharing music and movement as part of this morning of family-centered Dharma practice.

"We invite you to come and be a part of the diverse family sangha at EBMC. We welcome families with babies, toddlers, and children up to age 12. Children under 5 will need to have a parent/caregiver stay with them. We gather to create a safe refuge to share the joys and the challenges of parenting by cultivating loving kindness, compassion, patience and generosity with the support of the sangha. It is a wonderful opportunity to have family time without digital distractions and to learn mindful practices for the whole family. Parents/caregivers and children will meet together and separately during the class. Families with children under the age of 5 meets in a mindful playgroup. We are committed to creating a diverse family sangha, all families are welcomed. No prior experience is necessary."

Wesak Awakening: Buddhists Declaring Climate Emergency Together

 —  —

The Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist, 1661 15th St, San Francisco

“In Buddhist practice, we say congratulations because now is the time we have been practicing for. No more just practicing the dance. We must now dance. And this is not a dress rehearsal.” ~ Zenju Earthlyn Manuel

We invite you to take action for the world we love. Come together on Wesak (the anniversary of Buddha’s awakening) to bear witness together to our climate emergency.

Guided by beloved teachers Thanissara and Kittisaro, we’ll join in ceremony, collectively naming and acknowledging our harrowing climate situation. We’ll also be supported by a diverse array of speakers (including Anne Symens-Bucher on behalf of Joanna Macy), an open mic, interactive heart-based exercises, movement to help us ground, live music with The Invisible Bee and others, and the opportunity to speak and listen to each other’s intentions for responding, individually and collectively, in these times.

We’ll end the event with a plant-based meal shared in community, and leave with the strength and inspiration to continue this vital conversation within our families, sanghas and beyond. We hope you’ll join us for this afternoon of contemplation, sharing, connection, engagement and truth!

Note: This event is free. Space is limited. Please register to assure your spot. More info at the Eventbrite link.

Awakening Retreat

 —  —

Animal Place Sanctuary, Grass Valley, CA

At a time of such uncertainty, we must awaken to our deepest truth in order to understand how to move forward. Join Charity Kahn & Diana Oppenheim for a weekend utilizing yoga, mindfulness, and other activities as tools to help us face our harsh reality, tap into our collective and individual strength, and find the clarity and courage necessary to forge a clear path.

Stepping outside our daily life -- even for a few days -- can open a powerful doorway to creativity. We will spend the weekend moving our bodies and stilling our minds to help us gain insight into how to respond to our global catastrophe. What gifts do you have to share? How can you use your gifts in service of the earth? We will address these questions and more in vision planning and strategy sessions, and use transformative collaboration to cut through the delusion that we can't do anything about climate change.

One individual's actions can absolutely do a lot, and collective action can do much more. All of it is needed. In the face of mass extinction, animal cruelty, capitalistic greed, racist political systems and oppression around every corner, we need to take the time to pause -- not to turn away from reality, but rather to learn how to navigate its waters.

Throughout the weekend, we will enjoy vegan food cooked by amazing chef, Lindsey Kraten. We will practice daily yoga and meditation. And we will harvest collective wisdom. Together, we will explore what it means to be awake during such volatile times. And we will leave with a better sense of what we can do about it.

Ethics -This retreat is 100% vegan.
-This retreat will be zero waste. -100% of profits generated will be donated to the Global Movement Network-- a decentralized funding pool for direct action environmental activists. The two organizations they fund are Vital Actions & L'eau Est La Vie Camp.

 —  —

Point Reyes

Join Charity Kahn and Diana Oppenheim on this short but powerful retreat to Point Reyes National Seashore. Point Reyes is an incredible part of the California coast and is home to 15% of ALL California biodiversity, including 60 species of plants and animals found nowhere else in the world. It's an incredibly rich and diverse ecosystem filled with stunning views, wide open skies and gorgeous trees and wildlife, making it the perfect place to drop into your body, mind and soul and take action in a way that creates peace for you but also the ecosystem of which you are a part.

Yoga, mindfulness and meditation, habitat restoration, healthy and delicious vegan food are all part of this weekend but the true gift is connection: with yourself, with others and of course with our beautiful earth.
